I fell into screen printing by accident, back when I was in high school I was best known for my artwork and had friends who started a band “GARGOYLE” Yep, heavy metal was in full swing bands like IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PREIST and BLACK SABBATH were on my play list. Cover art for albums and tee shirts was the highest award for any artist and I WANTED IN! So I went on a quest to find out how to go about doing this project!
After several attempts doing it by myself I contacted a local screen printer who let me print up the tee shirts myself in her shop for free, we soon were off and running all shirts sold and I had acquired a new job working in a screen print shop.
The start was rough but it was fun and exciting, I made tons of mistakes just like any beginner would. I pressed on looking for further employment in the big city of Portland Oregon, The perfect job came along when I landed job with Fabric art and for the next 7 years climbed the ladder as a manual printer then a automatic press operator, I did learn a thing or two during my residence there, the company eventually went under forcing me to move onward.
The next few years were interesting to say the least finding JOBS was easy but the right balance was tough. Some of the more notables that I held employment would be Nike, a bit of a twist here rather than running production we were a sample and R & D shop which means every single shirt that was to be produced for the coming year had to be set up and proofed before going on to be mass produced, so print orders, inks, mesh counts and other specialty applications were fleshed long be before they ever hit the press. Nike closed its doors on the print program and outsourced all phases of the screen print to others, I moved again to Liberty west, a production facility that was taking on the SMU Nike line. Only this time I ran the sample department were we did extensive testing for special applications like gel overlays, high density, water base reflective to mention just a few items.
For the last 4 years I have been working for Ryonet as an inside sales person and a teacher. I realize now without those past experiences I would not be as effective in my current roll as a salesperson and a teacher, hopefully I have passed along some good information to you the consumer. NOW I CAN HELP YOU ON YOUR JOURNEY TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
