Question/Problem….
Regarding your Enviroline range. I have been using both Permaset and Speedball and if you have time and can look at the attached photos, they are of a segment of a design, printed with Speedball red, on a white cotton shirt – stretched and unstretched view. Does your Enviroline range behave in the same way, or do the translucent colors ‘sit on the garment’ like plastisol. I am a little confused as to how exactly waterbased should behave when stretched. In this case, the ink parts with the fibers… is this correct for Enviroline and all waterbased inks?
ANSWER. There are two types of water based ink, opaque water based ink and transparent water based ink. Transparent inks are going to be thin, this is what you are using. These will sit IN the garment and when stretched you may see shirt fibers. I think that the RC water based inks have a higher garment penetration. Below is a picture of a shirt we printed in class this last weekend through a 200 mesh screen with the RC black ink, I stretched it as far as I could with 1 hand, pretty good coverage. Keep in mind the more coverage there is with WB the longer it takes to dry. If you are looking for an ON TOP OF THE SHIRT ink then you would want to go with the Opaque water based, you could use the Opaque White Water Base and then over print either the opaque colors or the RC colors on top in order get the ink to stand up on top of the garment.
